Accommodation in New Zealand

... Okiato Lodge

It is not without reason that New Zealand is an enviable luxury holiday destination. Okiato Lodge is one of the finest examples of luxury accommodation to be found in the country...

Okiato Lodge

The Lodge at Okiato Point sits nestled amongst native trees on the tip of a secluded peninsular and provides the perfect base from which to enjoy the beautiful Bay of Islands, one of the country's most spectacular locations. And is located about a 3-hour drive from central Auckland (driving directions follow the enquiry form below).

And has all of the amenities, facilities and levels of comfort you would expect from a hotel of this class. Maintained to the meticulous standards required by travel and tour operators worldwide.

And the magnificent views across a glorious vista of islands and sea are matched only by the superb service at the Lodge, a combination that has been enchanting visitors for over a decade.

Dream away the hours beside the pool. Take a stroll along the shores and enjoy the location's rare and serene beauty. There is no finer place in the world to simply do nothing but rejuvenate your soul and senses.

The award-winning lodge was purpose built for the discerning traveller and each of the nine suites has a lower level mezzanine lounge area with a private terrace offering views out over the Bay. The sole purpose of Okiato Lodge is to provide luxury accommodation for the discerning traveller wishing to experience the stunning Bay of Islands.

As you would expect, each suite has its own en-suite bathroom, air-conditioning, television, phone, bowl of fresh fruit, flowers, beach towels, complimentary toiletries, bath robes and hair dryers. For those quiet moments, there are tea and coffee-making facilities and a fully stocked mini-bar for your convenience.

When you need to get out and about, there is a multiude of things to see and do.

Charter a boat and cruise the bay for a day. Take a popular ferry cruise out through the magnificent islands to the picturesque "Hole in the Rock". Dive for scallops and crayfish or swim with the dolphins, you may even see the most gentle of giants -- the humpback whale.

For the avid fisherman or woman, Okiato Lodge can arrange an exciting day in the fighting chair of a charter-fishing launch, deep sea fishing with an experienced local skipper.

Or, experience the Far North by fixed wing aircraft or charter a helicopter to Cape Reinga and Northland - a 5 hour tour. Take a one-hour flight up the West Coast, spend 3 hours exploring the top of New Zealand in a four wheel drive, then an hour flying back down the East Coast.

Guests are encouraged to join their hosts in the bar area for complimentary pre-dinner drinks and hors-d'oeuvres while recounting their day's experience with fellow guests prior to dinner. Dinner in Okiato's formal dining room is a memorable experience. Our chefs work with the finest and freshest New Zealand produce that will delight your taste buds.

Naturally enough, such a culinary experience is complemented by a selection of fine New Zealand wines.

Breakfast at Okiato Lodge is, by contrast, casual. Enjoy it in the dining room or on your terrace in the morning sun.

If there is something we've missed. Or if you have an enquiry, please use the form below.

Getting to Okiato Lodge is straight-forward. There are two options, by road or you can fly to Kerikeri Airport.

If you prefer to drive yourself, there are two options, the direct or coastal routes. The difference in driving time is about an hour...

Option 1: The Direct Route
(Driving time, 3-4 hours)

Follow State Highway 1 north from Auckland, over the Harbour Bridge following the signs to WHANGAREI. This route will take you through the towns of OREWA, WARKWORTH, WELLSFORD and WHANGAREI.

Approximately 1 hour north of WHANGAREI you will come to KAWAKAWA where the main road north turns to the left. DO NOT TURN LEFT. At this point you will go straight on following the signs to OPUA and the RUSSELL CAR FERRY which is 14 kilometres (about 9 miles) further on.

The car ferry operates a continuous service from 6.40am through to 9.00pm, the last ferry departs Opua at 9.45pm (no bookings are required). The ferry crossing lasts 10mins and costs NZ$8.00 for car and driver with additional passengers being NZ$1.00 each.

On leaving the ferry drive, approximately 200m (top of the hill) and take the 2nd left into PIPIROA ROAD (the Lodge sign is on the left) which leads into JAMES CLENDON PLACE.

Okiato Lodge is located at the end of the cul-de-sac.

Option 2: The Coastal Drive
(Driving time, 3-5 hours)

Follow State Highway 1 north from Auckland, over the Harbour Bridge following the signs to WHANGAREI. This route will take you through the towns of OREWA, WARKWORTH, WELLSFORD and WHANGAREI.

Approximately 1 hour north of WHANGAREI, you will drive through HIKURANGI, you will come to WHAKAPARA and a BP Service Station on the left. Just a little further on, there is a turn-off to the right which is sign-posted OLD RUSSELL ROAD - OAKURA. Take this road.

This road will take you on a leisurely drive through the coastal bays. Drive towards NGAIOTONGA, and TAUPIRI BAY, continue until you get to the RAWHITI turn-off. There will be a signpost advising you to turn off towards PARAKURA BAY, MANAWAORA and RUSSELL.

You will come to a T-intersection in the road. Continue straight ahead to explore RUSSELL or turn left and continue out to OKIATO LODGE, approximately 10 minutes. Continue straight ahead until you pass the Te Wahapu turn-off on the right, keep driving until you get to Deeming Road on your left, continue 100 metres until you get to PIPIROA ROAD.

Turn right into PIPIROA ROAD (the Lodge sign is on the right) which leads into JAMES CLENDON PLACE which is a short cul-de-sac.

The Okiato Lodge is located at the end.
