Be very careful to check the fine print, especially for fuel surcharges and airport taxes. The trouble is that these elements are not always available until the ticket has been booked.

Air New Zealand has also recently clamped down on excess baggage allowances. Where there was once flexibility, now you'll be charged for any baggage you're carrying that's over the limit. And the charges are steep!

$7 per kilo for domestic and up to $35 per kilo for international flights.

So look carefully at the fine print regarding fares and be careful about your baggage allowances.
