Charter a Private Jet
And Avoid Airport Congestion

Why Charter a Private Jet to Fly To New Zealand?

While the First Class award-winners fly here, and most of the Business Class winners as well, sometimes you just need the convenience of a private jet. Once you've decided when you want to come here the choices available are multiplying rapidly.

At one time the choices were simply, buy or lease. Now you can buy a private jet outright, enter a fractional ownership arrangement, block lease or charter a private jet as you need one. And there's a good chance that the business jet you charter is someone else's...

PA Consulting have put together a very good white paper for Bombardier to explain the different types of private jet ownership available these days.

NetJets have very succinctly outlined the choices avaiable to prospective private jet users.

But regardless of the ownership model you choose, before you arrive in New Zealand be sure to have contacted Skycare - New Zealand's leading corporate ground handling agent to arrange all your ground clearance formalities. They have catered to foreign governments as well as the rich and famous.

Charter a Private Jet

As a general rule, aircraft charter is a good solution if you fly 1-50 hours per year, have an unpredictable and/or infrequent flying schedule, and prefer to pay on a per flight basis. It's a cost effective way to travel, but you need to ensure that you are selecting a quality provider.

There is a certain amount of work involved. On a trip by trip basis, you must first determine the charter provider and the type of aircraft needed to accomplish the mission. This determination is usually based on factors such as size, range, and airport requirements. Once you have selected the provider and aircraft type, you simply book the trip and provide payment upfront. Charter customers pay for the hours the aircraft is used, whether they occupy the aircraft or not.

To get a sense of chartering costs, visit CharterHub. Simply choose your departure and arrival points, the dates of your travel and request a free quotation. You'll need to register in order to receive the quotes by e-mail.

Pre-paid Jet Cards

Prepaid Jet Cards offer an alternative for those who generally fly fewer than 50 hours per year and are seeking guaranteed service. In these programs, your one time, upfront payment guarantees you a set number of flight hours, with no further obligation once the hours are flown.

Most jet card programs are essentially charter brokers; they don't own or manage any aircraft and they charter different aircraft (often most economically) for each scheduled flight. From flight to flight you do not know the aircraft you'll be flying on, and don't know the reputation of the actual aircraft provider. Before selecting a prepaid jet card company, it is imperative that you determine the source(s) of the aircraft you will be flying on.

NetJets and the Marquis Jet Card have combined forces to offer the safety and service of NetJets fractional jet ownership to those who prefer a short-term commitment, have flying needs that are fewer than 50 hours a year, or just want to try NetJets.

Fractional Ownership

Fractional ownership is right for you if you fly 50 or more hours per year, often with short notice or during peak demand periods and when reliable, guaranteed service and consistent high safety standards are imperative. Fractional ownerhship makes it possible to calibrate the size of your investment to meet your air travel requirements.

It works as follows:
  • You purchase a share in a specific aircraft tailored to your business and/or personal travel requirements starting with as little as 1/16 interest (50 occupied flight hours per year) and retain financial and legal control over the asset in a specific serial-numbered aircraft registered with the Federal Aviation Administration.
  • You have no management responsibilities or concerns. The fractional provider manages your interest and provides total flight crew management, trip scheduling, ground support, catering, ground transportation, and all maintenance.
  • In the best fractional programs you are guaranteed availability in as little as 4 - 10 hours notice depending upon the aircraft you acquire. When you call for your airplane, either your aircraft or a comparable or larger aircraft will be dispatched. Your account will be charged each tme you fly. There are no empty leg, repositioning, or ferrying charges.
For those who fly at least 50 hours per year often with short notice or during peak demand periods, and for whom reliable, guaranteed service and the highest standards of safety are imperative, Fractional Ownership is the key.

Full Ownership

Ownership of an entire aircraft may make sense if you fly more than 400 hours per year and your flights typically originate from and terminate at the same location. You are responsible for hiring and training pilots, hangaring the aircraft, maintenance of the aircraft, scheduling flights, and payroll. Aircraft management companies can alleviate these day-to-day responsibilities and can also offset your operating costs with charter revenue by marketing your aircraft for charter when you're not using it.

Fractional ownership may still make sense even if you fly more than 400 hours a year. Particularly if:
  • You often need more than one aircraft a day.
  • Your trips originate from multiple locations.
  • You stay at your destination for several days.
  • Your number of passengers and trip distances vary.
  • An "out-of-service" plane is unacceptable.
  • You already own an aircraft, but it often flies "deadhead" (empty).
