Driving in New Zealand
New Zealand. Beautiful landscapes, lush forests, amazing wildlife and pleasant climate.
A true haven for many outdoor activities and a great place to unwind.
If you decide to hire a luxury car in New Zealand, there are just a few things, some special considerations, to take into account.
- Firstly. We drive on the left. So, if you're coming from Europe (other than the UK) or North America please pay special attention...
You don't want your private jet experience being a Medivac home...
- Secondly. Courteous it is. But it's also the law. If you are at a cross-road and turning left and you are facing another car turning right, YOU must give way, or yield.
That's right, if you are turning left, you must give way. It helps to clear the traffic that may block our otherwise "crowded" roads...
- And thirdly. Our in-town speed limit is 50 km/h. And the open road speed limit is 100 km/h and most of our roads are, quite frankly, not safe at anything much above that.
Major highways can be two-lane, undivided roads. A luxury hire car in New Zealand may be European. But this is not North America or Europe. There are no autobahns...So please take care.
It's a reflection of the pace of life here. It's part of what makes Quintessential New Zealand.
So write your own itinerary. Explore the diverse physical, cultural, and artistic landscapes. Drive yourself or be driven to distraction...
... and enjoy.
