Don't forget: No fruit, No animal products, No cheese. New Zealand's bio-security laws are some of the toughest in the world.

There is no law against bringing quarantine goods into the country as long as you declare them. And the majority of declared items will be inspected, and if necessary treated, and given back to you. Treatment for personal consignments is relatively cheap and goods are returned within a few days. But...

Prohibited items include:

• some live animals, and animal products,
• a good number of foodstuffs, including meat products and eggs, honey, and dairy products, and
• some live plant material including fruit and seeds.
